The Find My app on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac makes it easy to locate missing Apple devices, as well as keep up with friends and family, all while protecting user privacy.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said:
“Now we’re bringing the powerful finding capabilities of Find My, one of our most popular services, to more people with the Find My network accessory program. We’re thrilled to see how Belkin, Chipolo, and VanMoof are utilizing this technology, and can’t wait to see what other partners create.” Apple’s Find My app can now help more users locate and keep track of even more important items in their lives using the Find My app.
These products will allow users to locate where they’ve left their bikes, their earbuds, their backpack, etc with the help of the Find My app. Users will be able to add those devices to the updated Find My app starting today and can track them through that app much in the same way that they’d track any missing Apple product.
Apple has said that more third-party devices like Find My-enabled will be announced soon. Third-party products must adhere to all the privacy protections of the Find My network that Apple customers rely on, Which will provide security and safety to the users.
Now, any hardware manufacturer can add software-side support for Apple’s localized network to track missing items — so long as follow by Apple’s Made for iPhone (MFi) accessory rules.
