- Facebook has removed 16000 accounts for spreading fake reviews of products.
- This move is the result of CMA scrutiny over Facebook.
- These fake reviews on the marketplace were misleading innocent users with their fake reviews.
- Reviews were kept on buying and selling processes by the fake reviewers.
The popular social media platform Facebook has taken a bold decision and has removed almost 16000 accounts from the platform. The suspension was done as these accounts were selling and buying fake reviews of products on them. This has been done after Britain’s competition watchdog intervened for the second time, the regulator said.
Facebook Removes 16,000 Accounts for Buying-Selling Fake Reviews
Facebook has adopted new technologies to detect, remove this kind of paid stuff. So, that paid content can not deceive users on various platforms. The changes have been made to the popular sites also like Instagram, CMA (Competition and markets authority) as reported on Friday.
A Facebook source said-
“We have engaged extensively with the CMA to address this issue. Fraudulent and deceptive activity is not allowed on our platforms, including offering or trading fake reviews,”
The procedure was started by CMA in early 2019 when it also urged other social media platforms to keep a regular check on their platforms and look into the matter of fake promotions. These fake reviews are highly misleading the innocent users and also lower the reputation of the power of social media.
This growing marketplace on such platforms is an emerging issue as this is not going towards the right path and is misguiding users with fake reviews.
CMA Crackdown :
“The pandemic has meant that more and more people are buying online, and millions of us read reviews to enable us to make informed choices when we shop around. That’s why fake and misleading reviews are so damaging,”
– said CMA Chief Executive Andrea Coscelli
Facebook is facing high rife worldwide for antitrust concerns. moreover, it is also struggling hard over its data-sharing practices, fake news, and hatred speeches.
CMA’s crackdown on Facebook coincides with Britain’s efforts to arrange a devoted digital markets unit throughout the regulatory authority to particularly take a look at governing digital platforms.
